Carlos is a New York based architect and curator who joined Storefront in 2012. In parallel to his work at Storefront, he has been appointed Chief Curator of the 2016 Oslo Architecture Triennale with the After Belonging Agency, a curatorial team based in New York and London.

 

Trained as an architect in Spain, in 2006 he co-founded PKMN, an architect’s collective based on the research of art, architecture, city, and the citizen through the use of actions and exhibitions. PKMN has been awarded and published on several occasions and has been exhibited widely. In 2008 he founded NaMi, his own architectural office where he developed, among other projects, La Rioja Pavilion for the 2008 International Exhibition in Zaragoza, Spain. In 2012, he graduated from Masters of Science in Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices in Architecture (CCCP) at Columbia University, New York, receiving the Award for High Academic Attainment. He has previously worked as Assistant Curator and Designer of the exhibition ‘Public Matters, New York Architecture after 9/11,’ curated by Reinhold Martin, and organized the symposium ‘Interpretations: Exhibition Practice,’ held in April 2010 at Columbia University. He has lectured about architecture and curatorial practices in Europe and the United States, including Princeton University School of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Columbia GSAPP, and Rhode Island School of Design.

 

At Storefront, as part of the curatorial team, he has organized many exhibitions, projects, events, competitions, and publications. In 2013, he co-curated BEING, the 30th Anniversary project at Storefront, including an exhibition, a conference, and a publication. He was the Assistant Curator of OfficeUS, the US Pavilion at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennial, commissioned by Storefront for Art and Architecture and curated by Eva Franch i Gilabert, Ana Miljački, and Ashley Schafer. He is currently working on the third edition of OfficeUS‘ publication series, OfficeUS Manual, to be published in 2015.
