Independent Projects Grants
Deadline: April 20, 2013

Storefront is pleased to act as a fiscal sponsor for select individuals who wish to apply to the NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS for an Independent Projects Award in the Architecture + Design Program for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.  Project grants are available for professionals in the design field through the Independent Projects Category.                        

General Information 
Grants of up to $10,000 are available for architects, landscape architects, graphic designers, fashion designers, industrial designers, and interior designers to creatively explore or research an issue or problem in the design, planning and/or historic preservation fields which advances the design field and contributes to the public’s understanding of the built environment. The category seeks projects that are innovative in nature and emphasize the artistry of design excellence.  

Prerequisites for applying through Storefront  

New York State resident with New York State address (please note there are required documents that will need to be submitted with your final application to verify residency: http://www.nysca.org/public/guidelines/individual_artists/index.htm

Practicing architecture, design and/or historic preservation professional 

You may not be applying for another NYSCA project with another team or with another fiscal sponsor organization. 

 

Ineligible Projects include:

 

  • Student projects  
  • Projects by visual artists  
  • Projects that request NYSCA funds for out-of-state travel expenses. (Please note out-of-state travel expenses may be involved in your project; however, you should be prepared to note how you will cover these expenses with funds outside of NYSCA.)

NYSCA Independent Projects Application Instructions 

Please note individuals who do not follow instructions for submission as listed will not be considered. 

 

April 20, 2013 
Request for Proposals 
If you are interested in applying through Storefront for NYSCA funding, please answer all questions in the application form available on the right corner of this webpage and email  km@storefrontnews.org  answers to each question. Applications should be submitted in a word document with the email subject line “NYSCA Independent Project Application Request” by midnight on April 20th to be considered. Please note selected individuals will be asked to submit additional application information by May 10, 2013.  By submitting an application form, individuals agree to submit additional application materials requested to Storefront by this date. 

April 25, 2013 
Storefront will select 20 projects from the RFP to apply for support through NYSCA. Individuals and projects selected to receive sponsorship from Storefront will be notified by April 25, 2013 and will be required to submit additional information. If your project is not selected; you are free to apply with another organization, should you choose.  

May 10, 2013 
Application 
Storefront will email all registered applicants to request additional information to complete a full application. This will include a additional project information, a detailed budget and support materials.  

November 2013 

In recent years, NYSCA has made grant reward annoncements in November.  Should your project receive funding, you will be contacted and required to submit to Storefront a W9 to receive funds. Funds will be distributed as they are received.

September 2014
Final Report 
Funded applicants will be required to submit a final project report to NYSCA in September 2014. Storefront will coordinate final report submission with recipients as necessary.
