Storefront for Art and Architecture in collaboration with The McKittrick Hotel, which is home to Emursive’s production of Punchdrunk’s SLEEP NO MORE, presented Secret Sounds of the City on May 17, 2012 from 10:30pm – 3am.

Secret Sounds of the City is a performance series curated by Daniel Perlin,  where a group of architects, urbanists, sound artists and djs performed their interpretations of various cities throughout the world using audio/video. The performers were tasked with a challenge: perform and show the secret sound of the city in which they live through audio/speech and one object. Extending from Perlin’s success with the DOMUS Mixtape Series, the first performance of Secret Sounds of the City included the presentation and performance of city sounds by nine artists and culminated in the production of a collective acoustic ceremony with all artists followed by dj performances; more commonly known as a dance party.

About the Domus Mixtape Project
The DOMUS Mixtape project is a sound series curated by Daniel Perlin that invites artists to create a mixtape highlighting their interpretation of various cities throughout the world through sound. The project began in December 2011 with an acoustic interpretation of Mexcio City by artist Daniel Hernandez and has since produced 12 mixes by artists highlighting cities including Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Tel Aviv, Las Vegas, Moscow, Johannesburg, London, Milan, Melbourne, Buenos Aires, and Harlem NYC with interpretations by artists Cameron Bird & Gus Franklin, BLKJKS – Athi-Patra Ruga, Erez Ella + Nadav Lazar, Giuseppe Ielasi + Paolo Inverni, Evgenia Nedosekina + Feydor Pereverzev, Daniel Perlin, DJ Rupture with Sharifa Rhodes-Pitts, Scanner + Allard van Hoorn and Beatrice Galilee, Noah Sheldon, and ZZK + Leandro Erlich. The DOMUS Mixtape Project is featured in a regular section of DOMUS magazine.

About Sleep No More
Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More is an award-winning theatrical experience that tells Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth through a darkly cinematic lens. Audiences move freely through the epic world of the story at their own pace, choosing where to go and what to see, ensuring that everyone’s journey is different and unique. Sleep No More takes place at the McKittrick Hotel and began performances on Monday, March 7, and officially opened on Wednesday, April 13 to rave reviews. It has since gone on to win such theatrical honours as the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and the Obie Awards’ Special Citation for Design & Choreography.

The creative team features Felix Barrett (Direction and Design), Maxine Doyle (Direction and Choreography), Stephen Dobbie (Sound Design), Beatrice Minns (Design Associate), and Livi Vaughan (Design Associate).
